Narayana Health

NH Health City

The world’s largest heart hospital started off with the mission of making sophisticated healthcare available to the masses. The founder, Dr Devi Prasad Shetty, believed that no child should be deprived of the best healthcare despite their parents not being to afford it. That was the basis of establishing Narayana Hrudayalaya. The name Narayana Hrudayalaya means “God’s Compassionate Home” in Sanskrit, which embodies the true foundation of the institute. The Narayana Health City believes in ‘Caring with Compassion’ as it promises the best healthcare for people from all walks of life, and discriminates none.

Headquartered in Bengaluru, India, and operate a national network of hospitals in India with a particularly strong presence in the southern state of Karnataka and eastern India, as well as an emerging presence in western and central India. The company won the “Good Company” award for its quality, affordability and scale. The business model of Narayana Health became a Global Healthcare and Harvard Business School case study. The hospital chain is among the largest telemedicine networks in the world.

NH Hospital

In 2013, Narayana Hrudayalaya Pvt. Ltd. changed its brand name to Narayana Health. Narayana Health’s vision is “To provide high-quality health care, with care and compassion, at an affordable cost, on a large scale.” The group was founded in 2000 by Dr. Devi Shetty under the guidance of the Asian Heart Foundation. They believe “Narayana Health” brand is strongly associated with our mission to deliver high-quality and affordable healthcare services to the broader population by leveraging our economies of scale, skilled doctors, and an efficient business model. In aggregate, their centres provide advanced levels of care in over 30 specialities, including cardiology and cardiac surgery, cancer care, neurology and neurosurgery, orthopaedics, nephrology and urology, and gastroenterology (includes 56 facilities in India and the 1 facility in the Cayman Islands operated by their associate company, HCCI).

Narayana Health is able to provide affordable cardiac care to the masses by building a solid reputation for high-quality health services in order to attract paying patients and concurrently focusing on lowering its costs of operation wherever possible so that a larger number of people could afford to seek treatment. This combination provided a surplus from the paying patients from which was used to subsidise the procedures that were performed at or below cost for patients who were not able to afford the full fee.
